The Community School for Creative Education partners with families and communities to provide a rigorous college-preparatory program integrated into a culturally rich, arts-infused, highly personalized curriculum Waldorf education for the diverse students of Oakland to promote equity and prepare culturally competent, well-rounded, lifelong learners to lead, contribute to, and successfully participate in our rapidly changing multicultural society.
The Community School for Creative Education envisions a future in which all children have access to quality education; all children experience success in community and career; and youth voices contribute in valued and meaningful ways to the success of a thriving, equitable, and multicultural society. Community School is an organization that stands with and for children, families and the community of Oakland and its surrounding neighborhoods. In our service, we aim to align head, heart and hand, following our Waldorf Equity-Focused Model. As Oakland and the country's first Intercultural Public Waldorf School, we partner with organizations that are aligned to our vision, mission, values and actions.

From Mills College :
Head, heart, and hand. The Community School for Creative Education (CSCE), our public school partner offering Waldorf Education in Oakland, CA, is a perfect example of the intersection of leadership and compassion toward community care. Like school leaders across this nation, new principal, Candice Paul, and Executive Director and School Founder, Dr. Ida Oberman, along with the school leadership team, staff, community, and families, found it necessary to not only figure out the continuity of instruction upon receiving the county’s shelter-in-place order but soon realized there was more to consider.

Community School for Creative Education, 2020
At the Center for the Study of Art & Community we believe that arts-centered learning is necessary for the healthy development of every child. Ida Oberman has spent the last 10 years making this a reality for public schools students in east Oakland. Hear the story and get inspired on the most recent episode of Change the Story / Change the World.
