Dr. Ida Oberman - Executive Director & Founder
Executive Director Dr. Oberman is founder of Community School. She planned for over ten years and since 2008 worked closely with Oakland Community Organizations (www.oaklandcommunity.org) and a growing body of parents, educators, community leaders and public officials in its execution to launch.
Since its 2011 founding, Dr. Oberman has raised just over $1 million for the school from committed funders and individuals and built and extended networks for this first-of-its-kind urban public Waldorf initiative at the local, state, national and international level with partners ranging from Alliance for Public Waldorf Education, Envision Learnig Partners's Bay Area Performance Network, BELL Learning and Alameda County Food Bank. In addition, each year she guides a group to present at the National American Education Research Assocaiton Annual Meeting on the school's cutting edge work.
Dr. Clifford Thompson - Principal (acting)
Dr. Clifford Thompson, PhD, has worked in the field of education for 35 years. He has worked as a classroom teacher for 17 years, as teacher on special assignment for five years, and as a principal for 13 years. Prior to joining Community School as acting principal, Dr. Thompson was working as leadership consultant for us and a number of other Oakland schools. In his free time, Dr. Thompson tutors children in a community tutoring project in East Oakland and is long-time chair of the highly regarded Oakland Alliance of Black School Educators.
Gina Stiens, Dean of School Culture
Ms. Gina Stiens holds a Masters in Social Work and has served as clinical supervisor in Louisville at Autism-Community Based Services.
Yolanda Alvarado, Ofiice Manager
Yolanda is our Office manager school, and one of our dedicated office staff. She brings a bright smile and a thoughtful touch to our school. Yolanda is a dedicated mother who delights in giving her sons new experiences and adventures when she's not working diligently at the school
